MAF Sensor Cleaning or Replacement in Vantaa
A contaminated mass airflow sensor gives wrong readings for fuel metering — quick cleaning is often enough.
Never clean a MAF with ordinary cleaner — only use dedicated MAF cleaner spray.
Mass airflow sensor pricing:
- MAF sensor cleaning – 155 €
- New MAF sensor installation – from 250 €
- Manufacturer OE MAF (Bosch, Hitachi) – from 320 €
- Air filter replacement at the same time – 90 €
- Diagnostics and reading adaptation – included

When a MAF sensor needs service
The mass airflow sensor (MAF) measures the amount of air drawn into the engine. The sensor sits after the air grille, between the air filter and the intake manifold. When the sensor gets contaminated with dust or oil residue, its measurement accuracy drops and the engine ECU meters fuel incorrectly. Typical symptoms of a dirty MAF: rising fuel consumption, power loss especially at low rpm, rough idle and an engine warning with codes P0100–P0104 (MAF circuit fault). Cleaning works in about 70 % of cases; if the sensor is electrically damaged, a new one is needed.
How a MAF sensor is cleaned
The sensor is removed from the intake tube (usually held by 2–4 screws) and the wiring connector is detached. The hot-wire or hot-film element inside is extremely delicate — never touch it with fingers or a cloth. Dedicated MAF cleaner spray is applied to the sensor element in short bursts and allowed to evaporate completely. After cleaning the sensor is refitted and the engine started. The diagnostic tool monitors MAF readings: at idle the value should be about 8–15 kg/h and under load 50–100 kg/h. If the values are now in the normal range, cleaning was successful. If they don't correct, the sensor is electrically faulty and needs replacing.

Why do MAF sensors get dirty?
MAF contamination almost always comes from two sources. The first is an aged or dirty air filter that lets dust reach the sensor element. The second, more common one is oil leakage from the crankcase breather: oil mist finds its way into the intake manifold and sticks to the sensor's hot wire, forming an insulating film. That's why the air filter has to be replaced regularly and the crankcase breather checked — without those, even a cleaned MAF will foul again quickly.
