When a blower needs replacing
The heater blower circulates air in the cabin and brings warm or cooled air via the heater core and air conditioning. The blower motor can fail from electrical faults, bearing wear or moisture exposure. Symptoms: no air at any speed, only one or two speeds work (resistor module fault), metallic or loud running noise, or intermittent operation. Fully failed, the blower provides no cabin air at all, making winter driving uncomfortable and unsafe (windows freeze).
How a blower is replaced
The blower usually sits under the dashboard on the passenger side. The glove box is removed and the blower housing is accessible. The electrical connector is removed and mounting bolts undone — the blower is dropped down by hand. The new blower is fitted and the electrical connector is connected. All four speeds are tested — if only one isn't working, additional inspection of the resistor module is done. Cabin filter condition is usually part of the work, since replacing it is simple alongside this job.

The most common cause is bearing wear — the motor's copper brushes wear over time, and commutator contact weakens. Moisture is another common cause — if the car has been in a flooded area or the air conditioning leaks, water can reach the motor area and corrode electrical components.
