When annual service is worthwhile
Annual car service is the most important preventive maintenance, keeping the car reliable and safe. Yearly inspection catches developing faults before they become big problems — this is considerably cheaper than fixing sudden faults. Recommended interval is 12 months or 10 000–20 000 km, whichever comes first. Annual service typically includes oil change, filter renewal, all fluid checks, brake and chassis inspection and pre-MOT checks. Electrical system and lights are also tested.
How annual service proceeds
Annual service starts with the car on a lift. Oil and oil filter are renewed, all fluids are checked (coolant, brake, power steering, washer) and topped up as needed. Air filter and cabin filter are renewed if required. Chassis inspection covers shock absorbers, control arms, ball joints, bushings, exhaust and cooling system. Brake thickness is measured and fluid condition is tested. Electrical connections and lights are tested. Finally a short test drive is done and the customer receives a report with recommendations for upcoming maintenance work.
