When a suspension kit replacement is worthwhile
Replacing the suspension kit is sensible when several suspension components are worn simultaneously — typically on an older car that has covered over 200 000 km. Instead of replacing individual parts separately (springs, shock absorbers, rubber parts), the whole suspension is renewed at once, which shortens total labour and costs less than the sum of separate replacements. Signs it's due: the car sways in corners, bounces on uneven roads, has sunk to a lower ride height, tyres wear unevenly, and there's shake through the body on braking. A suspension kit usually includes all springs, shock absorbers, ball joints, bushings and mounting components — everything needed to refresh the suspension system.
How a suspension kit is installed
The car is raised on a lift and all wheels are removed. Each corner has its old suspension stripped down — control arms, shock absorbers, springs, track rod ends. New parts are installed and every mounting bolt is renewed. Bushings and rubber components are lubricated as needed to ease installation. Once the whole suspension is assembled, the car is lowered and the suspension settles into its new settings. Wheel alignment is done precisely on all four wheels, settings are recorded and ride-feel adjustments can be made on coilover kits. The test drive confirms the car feels composed, doesn't creak or bounce, and steering is precise.

Why does kit installation save money?
Replacing a single component (e.g. shock absorbers) requires the same suspension strut dismantling as installing the whole kit. If only shock absorbers are replaced first, and a year later springs and then control arms also need replacing, total labour grows 2–3 times compared to replacing the whole kit in one go. A well-chosen suspension kit can also significantly improve ride feel over the original, which adds value to the repair. A whole-kit investment lasting 100 000+ km is a practical choice particularly for an older car that will be kept for several years.
