Stabilizer Bar Replacement in Vantaa

When an anti-roll bar needs renewing

An anti-roll bar (sway bar) is a steel bar linking the right and left suspensions. When the car leans in a corner, the bar resists the roll and keeps the car level. Bushings attach the bar to the body, and drop links connect it to the suspension strut. A worn bushing or link causes knocking or rattles on bumpy roads, and the car leans more in corners. A fully broken bar is rare but can happen from corrosion. Ride comfort significantly drops without a working bar.

How an anti-roll bar is replaced

The car is raised on a lift. The bushing clamps (usually two per side) are undone and old bushings are taken out. Surfaces are cleaned and new bushings are fitted — rubber for standard use, polyurethane for sport. Drop link replacement is done separately if they're worn — they connect the ends of the anti-roll bar to the suspension strut. New links install quickly. A test drive confirms the knocks are gone and the car feels composed in corners.

Why do bushings wear quickly?

Rubber bushings are exposed to constant motion and weather. The combination of frost and salt speeds up rubber hardening and cracking. Oil leakage from the engine bay dropping onto bushings can also chemically weaken them. Typical life is 80 000–120 000 km, but in heavy use (poor roads, aggressive driving) it can be noticeably shorter.
